Look, we all know 2017 was a political dumpster fire for many. If you happen to identify as the lady human variety, you’ve likely spent the last year trying not to lose your everloving mind over legislation that negatively impacts women and oh-my-god-did-they-just-say-that gaffs from political leaders. Are you tired? Because I’m exhausted.
But it was also a year of record civic engagement as waves of women began fighting back against bad policy through local and national advocacy efforts. We’re even running for political office in greater numbers… and winning. We have a lot to be hopeful about, but it will take strategic action to keep the momentum going in 2018 and beyond.
So I started ladyHUMANS. It’s a social enterprise that’s part feminist civic engagement hub, part consulting firm. My goal is to link Chattanoogans to local civic organizations and female political candidates that are socially progressive: that’s the social side. I also provide direct services in communications, project management, and strategic planning: that’s the enterprise side. I’m contracting my services as a nonprofit and business professional on my own terms, as my own boss, so I can publicly engage in community work that moves the needle on women’s equality. I like to think I’m working for you so I can work for women. So whether you’re here for the resources or you want to hire me, I appreciate your engagement and support of all us ladyHUMANS.
